Singer Qazi Touqeer has revisited a tough chapter from his early years, one that left him deeply upset. On a recent Bigg Boss 20 episode, he looked back at rejecting an offer from Ekta Kapoor. The press coverage that came the following day hit him hard.
What Qazi Touqeer said about the offer
As reported by India TV News, the incident came up during a talk with housemate Aamrapali Dubey on October 15. Following his 2005 Fame Gurukul title, Ekta Kapoor herself reached out with a TV project. That win had given him national fame. At that point, he was barely out of his teens and still finding his feet in the business.
However, the role never really clicked for him. The rockstar part felt vague at best, and Kapoor’s rings kept catching his eye during the pitch. Because of that, much of her explanation passed him by. Even so, an offer from a producer of her stature was no small thing for a newcomer.
Saying no to Ekta Kapoor was not easy for the young singer. He ended up sending word through someone called Anupama instead of speaking to the producer himself. He told her another film already had a hold on his schedule, so he had to decline. It was a simple message, but the fallout turned out to be far from simple.
How the headlines changed the story
The next morning came as a shock. Then the press painted him as someone who had waved the producer off for a better opportunity. One headline, as he remembers it, read “Qazi ditched Ekta Kapoor. Qazi has a bigger fish to fry.” According to him, that earlier film deal simply came first and decided the matter.
Qazi Touqeer said the whole episode left him humiliated in front of everyone. It felt even worse at such a young age. He was also unhappy with how the papers covered the matter. Now, more than two decades later, he chose to bring it up inside the Bigg Boss house.
He had no online platform to answer from, so the story simply ran its course. In that era, a single headline could shape opinion for days before anyone heard the other side. Still, he kept going and later took part in Afghan Jalebi. The track belongs to the Hindi film Phantom, which remains one of his best known credits.

How Qazi Touqeer returned to the national stage
He entered the Bigg Boss 20 house as the third contestant on premiere night in September. The Srinagar-born singer arrived almost 21 years after his Fame Gurukul win. In between, he drifted from the public eye for several years. He sings in Kashmiri, Hindi and Urdu, and his uncle Qazi Rafi was also a Kashmiri singer.
Since then, Qazi Touqeer has become one of the most talked about contestants this season. His moments inside the house spread fast, and his line “I’m a Rockstar, baby” has become a big hit online. Meanwhile, Arijit Singh said he would watch the show for the first time because of his old friend. The two shared the Fame Gurukul stage back in 2005.
Support has also poured in, as composer Sajid Khan announced five new songs with him in a viral video. In addition, his brother Touseef said a project with Arijit Singh is in the works. For a singer best known for a 2005 win, the current run could open fresh doors in music and acting.
